Ottawa County Community Foundation awards over $51,000

The Ottawa County Community Foundation recently awarded over $51,000 in fall grants to area nonprofits. Grants were funded through the foundation’s Dane G. Hansen Community Grant Fund, Kansas Health Foundation Fund for Ottawa County and the Ottawa County Public Health Fund.

The following organizations received grants:

  • Minneapolis Recreation Commission, $22,800 for improvements to the Minneapolis Recreation Commission Baseball Field Improvements, including a new scoreboard, realignment and cleaning of stadium lights, and installation of a backstop overhead extension.
  • Golden Wheel Senior Center, $11,374 for upgrades to the facility’s commons area, including new vertical blinds, carpet, furniture, shelving and a flatscreen TV.
  • USD 239, $5,425 to purchase a building for the baseball program’s scorekeeper, announcer and scoreboard operator to use during the season.
  • Minneapolis Noon Lions Club #7127, $3,386 to replace dilapidated trash cans downtown.
    City of Bennington, $3,346 to install a six-hole disc golf course in Bennington’s Antelope Park.
  • Minneapolis Fellowship of Christian Athletes, $2,850 to support multiple projects for the 2018–2019 school year.
  • HOPE, $2,000 to continue to support programs for community members who have been diagnosed with breast cancer.

Applications to the community foundation’s next grant cycle will open on March 1, 2019, with applications due on May 1. for more information.
