Community Foundation awards $69,000 in spring grants

Ottawa County Community Foundation awards over $69,000 in spring grants

MINNEAPOLIS, Kan.— During its spring grant cycle, the Ottawa County Community Foundation awarded over $69,000 to 19 projects throughout Ottawa County. The following organizations received funding:

  • Ottawa County Community Development Foundation, $4,315 to help purchase games for the Kid Zone, a magician and balloon show, sound system rental, stage rental, and banners at Rock the Park.
  • Ottawa County Community Development Foundation, $1,654.79 to support purchase of supplies for the Gingerbread Activity House and punch cards for the Gingerbread Christmas Festival.
  • Ottawa County, $1,000 to help fund a contractor and equipment to bury an electric line at the carnival.
  • VFW Post 3201, $5,839 to fund a contractor to replace the existing inoperable heat and air conditioning unit.
  • City of Bennington, $1,425 to purchase new netting for the baseball batting cage.
  • Ottawa County, $336.60 to fund advertising for the program Educating Patients: Components of Fall Prevention, Immunization, and Wellness and Nutrition.
  • Ottawa County Community Development Foundation, $5,000 to fund day-to-day operations for Choose Ottawa County.
  • Minneapolis Recreation Commission, $500 to purchase an education course and resources for Star Leadership.
  • Ottawa County Community Development Foundation, $1,500 to help fund the REVLUC event.
  • Ottawa County Community Development Foundation, $1,500 to help purchase equipment rentals, awards, shirts, and other supplies as needed for Bennington Family Fun Day.
  • Rock City, Inc., $6,000 towards purchase of a cement driveway, a cement sidewalk and a cement slab for concessions and storage.
  • Ottawa County, $1,800 to pay for a contractor for RV wastewater service relocation project.
  • City of Tescott, $1,100 to purchase two blue and black trash receptacles for the John Hutchinson Memorial Trails.
  • The First Tee of Salina, $5,000 to purchase equipment for a First Tee program location in Ottawa County.
  • Ottawa County Arts & Humanities Council, $1,800 to promote and pay creative performers for Art in the Park 2024.
  • Ottawa County Community Development Foundation, $8,000 to help fund the artist for a “Welcome to Delphos” mural.
  • USD 240 Twin Valley, $16,000 to purchase a sound system or a projection system equipment and professional installation.
  • City of Bennington, $1,428 to help in the purchase of new downtown benches.
  • Ottawa County Community Development Foundation, $5,250 to purchase four new doors, treat for termites, and clean the ducts for the Golden Wheel Senior Center.

This round of grants was made possible by six funds at the community foundation: the Dane G. Hansen Community Grant Fund, the Ottawa County Impact Fund, the Bennington Community Fund and the Tescott Community Fund, which all focus on improving quality of life throughout the respective communities, and the Ottawa County Public Health Fund and the Kansas Health Foundation Fund, which both support public health in Ottawa County.
